NYC American Museum of Natural History removes controversial statue, but this colonialism controversy rages on. Wonder why?

Those savages! The New York City American Museum of Natural History has taken down its increasingly infamous statue of the 26th president that had stood in front of the museum since 1940.

What was the problem? The noble Native American beneath Theodore was tamed, the African American on the other side was in his place. Even the horse was reined (reigned?) in. And Teddy Bear was forever looking forward.

Wow. All that history, lost.

Half of Twitter, damn mad.

Colonialism, dead.

Is this truly the end of the world order as we know it?

Sound off in the comments below on this, that, or anything else we’ve covered this week. Happy Friday, Wiredians.

P.S. It’s been five years since I wore that awful red shirt to interview then-Secretary of the Interior Sally Jewell with a concerned Larry Roberts looking on. And I haven't been invited back since! (Kinda.) Please don’t hold the shirt against me, Secretary Deb Haaland. (Photo credit: Vincent Schilling)
